Wheat Field Fire Art
I passed this John Deere combine sitting in a burned out wheat field and can only wonder at what really happened here. It must have caught on fire while combining the wheat and ended up burning part of the wheat field. I thought the stormy sky would add to the overall look and feel of the image. This is located in the Prospect community area of Morgan County, GA.

Hey Reid...love this picture. The wheat field belongs to Mr. George Brown's family, it's farmed by his grandson Wade Whitaker. Wade and his other grandfather Lee Whitaker had grown a nice stand of wheat and Lee was combining with their old patched-together John Deere combine, and suddenly realized that it had caught fire, and had consumed a good patch of wheat. Mr. Lee is 70 years old, and he literally had to jump from the driver's seat and into the field, the fire had entirely surrounded the combine and there was no getting off without jumping. He didn't even get a bruise! All the community came out to fight the fire and when they almost had it contained the wind shifted and things got very tricky, it began to threaten their homes at the field's edge. With the help of both Bostwick and Fairplay volunteer PD's and a bunch of neighbors jumping on tractors and cutting fire-breaks, the finally brought the blaze under control. I think they lost about 14 acres of wheat. At church the next day we praised God for his protection over all. The Browns and the Whitakers are my church members and like family to me, as you are my good friend!
