Historic Winter Court House Art
This beautiful building is the Greene County Court House building and houses several courts and tax departments of the Greene County Georgia Government. When I was Chairman of the Greene County Board of Commissioners my office was housed here but that office has since moved to another location. The local Mesonic Lodge occupies the third floor of this building just above the Superior Court on the second floor. Enjoy this wonderful southern architectural masterpiece.
The county's earliest courthouse was a log structure. The present Greek Revival structure was built and designed in 1849. The 3rd floor was built and served as a meeting room until 1897. The wings were added in 1939. Greene County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 15, 1994. The county seat is Greensboro. The county was created on February 3, 1786 and is named for Nathanael Greene, an American Revolutionary War major general. Greensboro was founded about 1780. In 1787, Greensboro was designated seat of the newly formed Greene County. It was incorporated as a town in 1803 and as a city in 1855.
