My historian friend told me about a store and a stairway he had never seen but assured me it was there. My curiosity got the best of me so I drove the 15-20 miles to the little forgotten town of Maxeys, GA. I had taken images of the exterior of the store as I passed thru on another trip. I crawled thru the open back door and took these amazing images of years "gone with the wind". I found the workmanship was incredible on these stairs, the metal wrapping of the beams and the list goes on and on.... The remodel of this old store building must have hit the downturn in the economy of 2008 or so and the project was stopped and not resumed. It would cost a small fortune to do it right and then who would come this far off the beaten path to enjoy it. What a fine restaurant and meeting hall it would make.
