Reedy River Falls Park
Greenville South Carolina Art
Is this inviting or what? This is a small part of the majestic walkway around Greenville, South Carolina's, Reedy River Falls Park. The Reedy River is just out of sight on the left in this image.
I am walking under the S Main Street Bridge that runs thru Falls Park in downtown Greenville, South Carolina and this beautiful scene develops in front of me! In a sudden rain storm this would be a very nice shelter or even a place to get out of the sun for a while. I'm capturing images for my photo collection on Greenville, SC. I saw South Carolina US Senator Lindsey Graham on Main Street uptown as I finished my shoot. Small world... Enjoy the beautiful colors and the leading line curves, that seem to work so well together here. Buy it for someone you love!
Falls Park on the Reedy is a 32-acre (130,000 m2) park adjacent to downtown Greenville, South Carolina in the historic West End district. Considered the birthplace of Greenville, the park was founded in 1967 when the Carolina Foothills Garden Club reclaimed 26 acres (110,000 m2) of land that had been previously used by textile mills. Renovation accelerated in the late 1990s under Mayor Knox H. White, prompting the formation of the Falls Park Endowment, a private charity supporting ongoing development. Each summer the park is home to the Upstate Shakespeare Festival.
The park's most striking feature is a unique pedestrian bridge that curves around a waterfall on the Reedy River. Named the Liberty Bridge at Falls Park on the Reedy, the 355-foot (108 m) long suspension bridge is supported by cables on only one side, giving an unobstructed view of the falls. It was designed by Boston firm Rosales + Partners with German firm Schlaich Bergermann & Partner as structural engineers and completed in the fall of 2004. It was awarded the Arthur G. Hayden medal for innovative design in 2005.
Near the bridge, the Main Street entrance to the park is graced by Bryan Hunt's 16 ft (4.9 m). bronze sculpture Fall Lake Falls and contains a restaurant and other visitor amenities at the new Falls Park Center.
The park also features a collection of public gardens and a wall from the original 1776 grist mill built on the site.
The Reedy River flows thru Greenville, SC and is a tributary of the Saluda River, about 65 miles (105 km) long, in northwestern South Carolina in the United States. Via the Saluda and Congaree Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Santee River, which flows to the Atlantic Ocean.
The Reedy River Falls: Big Brother....
Big Brother, or "The Falls", is a large waterfall that flows through the Reedy River Falls Park in Greenville, SC. It is overseen by the Liberty Bridge. Sliding down the falls is illegal according to Greenville law, but it is still practiced by many kayakers and other adventure seekers. The Reedy River rises in Greenville County in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, about 10 miles northwest of the city of Greenville, and flows generally south-southeastwardly through Greenville, Lake Conestee Nature Park, and the Piedmont region into Laurens County. It joins the Saluda River in Laurens County, 9 miles northeast of Greenwood, as part of Lake Greenwood, which is formed by a dam on the Saluda.
