Tracks Beach is a popular ocean-side destination on the western Waianae coast of O'ahu. The beach is named after the old Hawaiian railway that once supplied sugar cane to and from a mill and all along the western and northern coast of the island. After World War II it was decommissioned and torn up in many places. The tracks are preserved and can be seen running parallel to the beach from Kahe Point to the south.
The beach itself is long and hosts quite the crowd on fair-weather weekends, where picnickers, barbecues, and surfers all gather. Surfers can find condition reports online, and winter months typically boast larger swells. Certain portions of the beach are rockier than others and submerged boulders can cause injury. Early in the morning, pods of dolphins can be seen offshore as they make their daily migrations. Monk seals often beach themselves on Tracks Beach. In the evening, sunsets from the beach can be quite spectacular.
