Cloud Waves At Sunrise.....by Reid Callaway
Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway Art
During my sunrise shoot on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Brevard, NC these cloud waves, I call them, began to slip over the mountains tops and flow down thru the forest into the valley, 1,000 feet below me. This is Pink Beds Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you look closely in the top right you will see the Blue Ridge Parkway road itself as it winds around the mountain above.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a National Parkway and All-American Road in the United States, noted for its scenic beauty. It runs for 469 miles (755 km) through twenty-nine Virginia and North Carolina counties, mostly along the Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain that is part of the Appalachian Mountains. Its southern terminus is on the boundary between Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina, from which it travels north to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and offers access to the Skyline Drive. While the two roads join together end-to-end, they are separate and distinct entities, built as two different projects and managed by two different National Park Service units. The Blue Ridge Parkway was built to connect Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Pink Beds Overlook...
Below Mount Pisgah near Brevard, North Carolina is a lush area of cove forests and streams known as the Pink Beds. The area is named for the profusion of pink wildflowers, including mountain laurel and rhododendron, which appears in the spring.
Part of the Pisgah National Forest, the Pink Beds area offers excellent hiking and is especially appealing to naturalists, as the relatively flat valley sustains some very large pine trees and rare mountain bogs. An easy loop trail begins on the left side of the parking area.
The elevation of the Pink Beds ranges from 2,000 feet to 6,410 feet at Richland Balsam Mountain. The surrounding area is ideal for other types of recreation as well, including camping, fishing, horseback riding, and swimming.
The Fine Art America logo will NOT appear on your purchased image.
