Construction Cranes Building Art
Tower Cranes constructing buildings in downtown Greenville South Carolina on a partly cloudy day. The cranes are B&G and HEEDE construction company cranes. This photographer was a crane operator for many years and it gives me special insight into the problems and skills required to work heavy construction at this level. What a thrill it is to get to operate these massive machines both track mounted and tower cranes! The power you feel as you move small leavers and huge weighty components move. Being part of a team to get projects completed and then being able to look back at them and see what you helped create is very fulfilling.
A crane is a type of machine, generally equipped with a hoist rope, wire ropes or chains, and sheaves, that can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them horizontally. It is mainly used for lifting heavy things and transporting them to other places. The device uses one or more simple machines to create mechanical advantage and thus move loads beyond the normal capability of a human. Cranes are commonly employed in the transport industry for the loading and unloading of freight, in the construction industry for the movement of materials, and in the manufacturing industry for the assembling of heavy equipment.
