Life Is Not Measured By the Number of Breaths We Take, But By the Moments That Take Our Breath Away!
This is part Horseshoe Bend in Arizona showing the Colorado River just after sunrise when the shadows finally wained and is a beautiful sight to see. The reflections of some of the cliffs can be seen in the Colorado River. This is Glen Canyon and the Colorado River downstream from Glen Canyon Dam which holds back Lake Powell.
Glen Canyon Dam is the second highest concrete arch dam in the United States (Hoover Dam which stands 726 feet above bed rock is 16 feet taller). Lake Powell has a surface area when full of 266 square miles. The length of the lake is 186 miles long and it has 1,960 miles of shoreline. The depth of the water at the Glen Canyon Dam is 560 ft.Glen Canyon Dam is on the north end of the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River.
My trip to the Grand Canyon National Park was one of the most eye opening, rewarding and humbling experiences of my life. Here are but a few of my images from this National Treasure! In many of my works I show the great depth of the canyon which is almost beyond belief and more that 5,000 ft deep between the North and South Rims. The skies were beautiful on these days and the light and shadows play off so many of the images of rocks, trees, deep canyons and far horizons.
Grand Canyon National Park is the 15th site in the United States to have been named a national park. Named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the park is located in northwestern Arizona. The park's central feature is the Grand Canyon, a gorge of the Colorado River, which is often considered one of the Wonders of the World. The park, which covers 1,217,262 acres (1,901.972 sq mi; 492,608 ha; 4,926.08 km2) of unincorporated area in Coconino and Mohave counties, received nearly six million recreational visitors in 2016, which is the second highest count of all U.S. national parks after Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
